5 Proven Ways to Encourage Saving Money

Are you one of those people who cringe when you see someone else splurge? Are you a money-saving mad man/woman? Well, you’re not alone. Some of us are just natural savers. We gather money and hog it like there’s no tomorrow. It frustrates us when we see our friends and family spend money so freely. We wonder why our conscious prevents us from buying things that aren’t necessities, even if we do want it really bad. Okay, maybe we have a money-hogging impulsive disorder, but that’s another story. For now, let’s just say that saving money is a good thing and we should get other people to do the same.

Enlighten the Future
Just about everyone gets excited when you start talking about great financial opportunities for the future. I mean, wouldn’t you get excited if I told you you could be rich in a couple years? You can tell your friend about all the wonderful things you can do when you save your money for the future. You can save to purchase a car cheaper, because you won’t have to finance it. You can save for school, so you don’t have to take out loans and pay interest. You can even retire earlier. Saving money doesn’t mean you hog it and just to let it sit somewhere; saving money can reduce the net amount of money you spend on purchases so that you have extra money in the future to spend on more things, like a nice vacation. Saving money lets you buy more, no matter how strange that may seem.

The Power of Suggestion
One of the simplest ways to encourage a person to save is to suggest it. It can be a simple comment such as “Let’s eat in tonight to save some money” or “If we take the highway we can save some money on gas”. It’s the simple everyday things that can influence a friend or family member to save money.

Lead and Others Will Follow
Once people see how happy you are they will, without a doubt, want to be just like you. Be patient and show them how great it is when you save your money. As money-saving leader, feel free to brag about all the advantages of having extra money because you saved it. Show others how great it is to be a money-saver like you.

Make a Plan
If there’s no plan then there’s nothing to follow. Helping someone make a plan gives a stronger sense of direction. You can always tell someone to save money but there is no guarantee the person will know how. When there’s a simple planned path to follow it’s easier to jump on the money saving wagon. To some people, not having a plan is like driving blind folded. You tell them a destination, but they have no clue how to get there. Plans are a great was to give a sense of security and control.

Fear is Man’s Motivator
Worst comes to worst, you can always scare them. You can tell them the scary stories about how people get into debt and how hard it is for them to get out of such disaster. Tell them about serious ways that debt can ruin lives. The debt that is accumulated only grows deeper. Lots of people spend their whole lives struggling because of unwise financial decisions. The burden of living paycheck to paycheck is miserable. If you don’t save, you are bound to make financial mistakes and become a slave of credit card issuers and loan lenders. Say bye bye to financial freedom, and hello to hell.

There are many ways that you can encourage others to save money. Of course it depends on the type of person you’re dealing with to determine which method is right to use. Pick one and see how it works and if it doesn’t then keep trying. Helping others save money is a phenomenal feeling, so don’t give up.
